Community Thrives is a brand new Kizuna program that seeks to answer the question, “How might Kizuna empower high school students to effectively lead community projects that help Little Tokyo thrive?”
Developed after recognizing the enormous impact the coronavirus has had on Little Tokyo businesses, organizations, and residents, this program teaches high school students leadership and organizing skills and brings in community leaders to facilitate workshops and share about how they are supporting the community during this uncertain time.
This year our program for high school students will learn how to reflect on their own identities and abilities, how to build community consciousness amongst their peers, and how to organize in ways that are culturally relevant.
Over the course of 5 weeks, participants will engage in interactive workshops, explore their personal identity, learn more about community issues, develop community organizing skills, and address a critical topic as part of their awareness campaign project.
